Prescription narcotics and their street counterpart, heroin, cause 115 deaths in the U.S. each day, with prescriptions accounting for 40 percent. Until recently, dentists were the top specialty prescribers, writing 15 percent of opioid scripts. In the past twenty years, considerable progress has been made, thanks in part to the American Dental Association (ADA) and their ongoing education courses.1
But there is still work to be done to further reduce the risk of addiction while effectively managing patient pain. Our panelists explore the many ways health plans, dentists, and insurance companies can work together to pull the country out of the pain management dilemma. A few of these solutions include member and provider education, prescribing protocols, effective technology and alternatives to opioids.
This one-hour webinar will include details about innovative strategies for fighting the epidemic through prescription monitoring, ED diversion, and dental case management.
